Photographic Thoughts — 10/11/2026 to 10/17/2026

“I wish that all of nature’s magnificence, the emotion of the land, the living energy of place could be photographed.” — Annie Leibovitz

Thank you for all the new views and likes from last week, it helps keep me inspired.

Last week, my curve photo was chosen as one of the top 52 photos out of 2558 entries in my 52Frames photo project! This was the second time a had a top photo. Last year my photo using the Droste effect was one of the top photos.

Sunday, 10/11/2026: Posted photo — Gospel Holder.

This is a photo of the cover to the Gospel. I used a P&S camera that was purchased for underwater photography a few years back. I am always adjusting settings to take photos out of the water. For a P&S camera, there are settings that I need to play with to get a good photo.

Monday, 10/12/2026: Posted photo — Boats.

I was at the cottage preparing to close it later this week. It is a three-season cottage and it is getting cooler at night. The plan is to close it one of the first weekends in October, but we had people staying there. This is a photo of the boats before they were stored for the winter.

Tuesday, 10/13/2026: Posted photo – Trail Junction.

This is a trail junction sign on the way to the Kinsmans. We took the Lonesome Lake Trail to the Fishin’ Jimmy Trail. The Fishin’ Jimmy Trail is named after James Whitcher, a well-known local character and fisherman from the Franconia, New Hampshire area.

Wednesday, 10/14/2026: Posted photo — Ladder on Hiking Trail.

Some trails in the Whites have aids to help hikers up and down dangerous sections of trails. The aids include hand and foot holds cut into rocks, steel rods in rocks, wooden steps bolted to rocks, and ladders. This hike had a few sets of ladders. Some were in better shape than others. Some were missing rungs, or almost ready to have rotted out rungs. This one is missing the first rung.

Thursday, 10/15/2026: Posted photo — Milky Way.

Last week I posted three photos of the Milky Way. The third attempt photo came out the best. Spent some time this week editing that photo. This is a much better photo. I am working on different editing of this photo to see if I can pull out some color.

Taking photos in RAW format is allowing me to experiment.

Friday, 10/16/2026: Posted photo – Maple Leaves.

When to the cottage after work to shut off the water. This process took approximately two hours. I sprayed down the roof to control moss growth over the winter before turning off the pump and pulling the line out of the well. All the water lines are drained, the hot water tank has been emptied, the toilet has been emptied and anti-freeze put in it, and the gas has been turned off.

While there was still light, I took a photo of this leaf.

Saturday, 10/17/2026: Post photo — The Cottage.

Here is a photo of our cottage. As you can see, it is an old cottage. We had a fire going in the wood stove, the only source of heat. The people that stayed over this weekend just loved how rusting it is. They were surprised that we had running hot water.

That is all for now. Until next week, be safe.
